We often hear of injured people who have symptoms that do not present in a common way, that create significant personal impacts, and that result in permanent and disabling symptoms. These symptoms often evade correct diagnosis or effective treatment (including injections or surgery) and continue to cause dysfunction and disability long after any legal claim is resolved. However, medical literature supports a commonly missed cause of significant neurological symptoms after trauma.

A leak in the envelope holding cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) around the brain and spine can cause headaches, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, cognitive problems, sensitivity to light and noise, unusual neurological deficits, and pain throughout the body. These leaks are frequently misdiagnosed as brain, inner ear, or spinal injuries, as well as pain syndromes, somatoform disorder, or even malingering. In some cases, injured people will undergo multiple surgeries that do not correct the symptoms. This 90-minute webinar will cover:

  • where CSF leaks occur
  • how a spine leak causes these symptoms in the head and other areas
  • why they are frequently missed or misdiagnosed
  • how they can occur in minimal impact damage cases
  • what treatments are available for these individuals

Dr. Stephen Wagner is a chiropractor who has been working with trauma cases for over twelve years and is frequently called on as an expert witness. While many cases involve more common injuries such as ruptured discs or torn spinal ligaments, he is frequently sought out for his opinion on the intersection between concussions, TBIs, craniocervical instability, CSF leaks, and other causes of concussion-like symptoms. Dr. Wagner has additional training from Northwestern University in Chicago and the Institute of Police Technology and Management of Florida in crash scene investigation, vehicle dynamics, crash reconstruction, black box Event Data Recorders, and he is ACTAR certified.
