Peter Perlman Outstanding Trial Lawyer of the Year Award, Kentucky Justice Association, 2008Biography
Gary C. Johnson has been successfully representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases for thirty-five years. He is the founder of Gary C. Johnson, P.S.C. which currently has seven attorneys in three offices located in Pikeville, Lexington, and Hazard, Kentucky. He and his firm are listed in the Martindale Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and he has been named a Kentucky Super Lawyer® for the last two years. In 2008, the Kentucky Justice Association awarded him the Peter Perlman Outstanding Trial Lawyer of the Year Award for his work as an advocate for the rights of the people, and his service as a mentor to young lawyers in the state.
He has received several multi-million-dollar jury verdicts and settlements over his career. He has tried cases in Kentucky, West Virginia, Georgia, Ohio, and several other states. In 2002, he received the largest single plaintiff's verdict in Kentucky history, over $270 million, which several major legal publications reported.
Mr. Johnson continues to devote the majority of his time to the day-to-day practice of law. His work consists almost entirely of plaintiff's personal injury cases in vehicular negligence, products liability, and medical malpractice. In the last few years, however, he has diverted some of his time to the education of other trial lawyers. He has given seminars for the Kentucky Justice Association and the American Association of Justice on trial strategy and how to maximize damages.
Mr. Johnson also feels strongly about giving back to the community through legal advice to people without assistance. In addition to his past public service as Pike County Attorney and a Kentucky State Senator, he provides free legal advice on a weekly basis through his television show, Lawyers on Call, which airs in central and eastern Kentucky.
