Biography

Founding Partner of Morgan and Morgan

John Morgan was inspired to become a plaintiff lawyer when his brother Tim sustained a spinal cord injury while working as a lifeguard at Disney World as a young man, and then was denied justice for his catastrophic and permanent injury.  In 1988, John founded Morgan and Morgan Injury Law, under the belief that the firm would represent the people, not the powerful.  Tim’s tragedy became John's life's work.  Today, John's passion about the indignity Tim suffered continues to drive him to build the largest personal injury firm in America.  To this day, John has run Morgan and Morgan, promising never to take a case representing an insurance carrier or large company.

Through John's guidance, leadership and vision, the firm has grown to include multiple locations throughout Florida, including Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Winter Haven, Daytona Beach, Kissimmee, Saint Petersburg, Naples, Tavares, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, West Palm Beach, Sarasota, Lakeland, and The Villages. The firm has also expanded nationally, opening offices in Atlanta and Columbus, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi; Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; New York, New York; Lexington, Bowling Green, and Louisville, Kentucky; Warren, New Jersey; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Morgan and Morgan is the largest plaintiff firm in the United States and employs more than 700 attorneys and thousands of legal support staff members. Twenty-five years after the firm's inception, "For the People" continues to be a way of life for John Morgan and the firm.

John has lectured across the country on the practice of law. He has been an active member of the Florida Association for Justice (formerly the Florida Academy of Trial Lawyers) and served as a FLAG trustee, making a push for Florida state law that would protect families from corporations and insurance companies. John is currently on the board of trustees for the University of Florida's Levin College of Law.

Morgan is a visionary in law firm marketing, not only mastering traditional marketing methods early in his career, but moreso for quickly understanding the future power of the internet and digital marketing methods.  In 2011, John proudly released his first book titled You Can't Teach Hungry: Creating the Multimillion Dollar Law Firm, on plaintiff law firm management.  He followed the success of this first book with an exceptional business book titled You Can't Teach Vision, which has gained praise from both leaders within the legal profession such as Brian Panish, as well as leaders outside the profession including Jim Messina - Former White House Deputy Chief of Staff under President Barack Obama.  The book draws upon Morgan's successes as a manager both in the law firm environment and in his multiple other business ventures.  The book teaches valuable lessons to anyone who owns or manages a business inside or outside the legal field.

John has also contributed to improving his community.  Recognizing the challenges faced by his brother Tim due to his ongoing disability, John personally spent years and millions of dollars supporting initiative ballot campaigns in Florida to legalize medical marijuana which eventually passed in 2016. Passing up a campaign for Governor of Florida (where he was favored in polls) he instead invested millions of dollars into a successful Florida ballot measure that will provide a graduated increase in the state minimum wage - reaching $15/hour by 2026.

John Morgan has also embraced the idea of giving back to the community, inspired by John's own childhood in poverty.  The Morgan & Morgan Hunger Relief Center is a 100,000 square foot facility has committed to disbursing food to the needy in Florida. His For The People Scholarship helps pay tuition for law students dedicated to helping their communities.
