In this 90-minute voir dire and opening statement CLE, lawyers Eric Fong and Ben Wells will share some of the strategies they’ve used to get historic verdicts and earn awards and widespread recognition as cutting edge, nationally respected, and feared trial attorneys. This program will focus on how to get your case out of the gates with a winning formula for an effective voir dire and powerful opening statement.

Fong and Wells will discuss their strategies for:

  • trial preparation
  • theories and themes
  • voir dire techniques and formulas
  • opening statement techniques and structure

Eric Fong is a trial lawyer with an impressive career with over a hundred cases tried to a verdict. Some of his landmark cases include the creation of the constitutional right of intimate association in Washington State, where Fong protected the rights of low-income housing residents against oppressive “crime control” measures. He obtained the largest compensatory verdict in Washington State history, $91,000,000. With cases ranging from murder to white-collar crime, and medical malpractice to toxic fume cases, few lawyers can match Fong’s breadth of experience in various fields of law. Eric Fong is a frequent lecturer at the Trial Lawyers College and has held leadership positions with several well-known legal organizations.

Ben Wells has devoted over twenty-five years of his life to the representation of people who have been injured physically, emotionally, or financially by the negligence or malpractice of others. He has handled nearly a thousand cases during his career. And although a vast majority were injury cases, he has also represented people who have been victimized by the malpractice of professionals or from criminal acts such as assault or sexual abuse. His recent results include several multimillion-dollar jury verdicts and settlements.
